Greetings,

For many of our students this coming week marks a significant milestone. Year 11 will complete their Preliminary HSC year at the conclusion of their exams, and Year 12 will be graduating - ending their school days, a status they can never return to, and a significant rite of passage. A rite of passage is a ritual that celebrates change: change for the individual and a means for the rest of the community to recognise that change. A passage from a student under the care and responsibility of the institution (school) to an independent young adult.
I am very proud of our Year 12 cohort as they grasped the challenge of our theme this year, ‘faith filled’.
faith filled: is when we are living life as God inspires us to live it, putting the Gospel into action through our actions.
faith filled: is being optimistic about the future, we trust ourselves and others, and we don't give up.
faith filled: is living with a hope and an expectation that the things I do make a difference in my life and in the lives of others.
faith filled: is not copying the behaviour and customs of others but living by a compass that guides one’s values.
faith filled: is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)
faith filled: is life-giving and anti-fear words that give life and hope to its hearers. Words that restore hope and uplift and expel fear because they are drawn from the Word of God.
faith filled: is certitude even where there is no evidence or proof.
faith filled: is being the best self that we can be.

John Wooden, a renowned US College Basketball coach provides the following advice for those in challenging situations such as a high-stake game or the HSC, to be the best self that they can be:
- Don’t obsess over comparing yourself to others:
Never focus on being better than someone else. Always learn from others and never cease to be the best YOU that you can be. - Don’t worry about what you can’t control:
If you get engrossed and concerned about what you cannot control, it will negatively affect what you do about the things you can control. - Success is being the best YOU that you can be.
To all students, set high goals, remember limitation is self-imposed, and that in trying you will learn what you are capable of. Work hard for there are no short cuts, and enjoy when success comes knowing that it was hard earnt which makes the success sweeter.
You are all wonderful, and capable beyond measure. You can do it. But be prepared to work for it.
