February 11, 2017 Oakhill News

Congratulations to Samaka Isaacs, of the Cammeraygal people, who was selected by National Indigenous Television for his successful achievements at school. Samaka while attending to his HSC requirements was also playing Rugby, Rugby 7’s, Basketball, AFL, and Ultimate Frisbee, and also represented Australia in the Indigenous Rugby 7’s against Fiji. Samaka on completing Year 12 and the HSC at Oakhill College was one of a few aboriginal students across Australia who received early round offers to University. Samaka was accepted into ACU, UWS, and Macquarie University, and eventually decided to do a double degree reading Psychology and Primary Education. Samaka’s advice to fellow aboriginal students is “Stick with your goals. I didn’t think I would go to University at most points in Year 12. But you’ve just got to stay hungry and work hard.  You’ll feel really good about yourself if you do work hard and you deserve what you get.”
