University student and 2016 Oakhill College graduate Lauren Adler has been announced as recipient of the annual 2017 Horizon Scholarship, an initiative of the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC). The criteria for the Award is the focused on the applicants’ commitment to agriculture, leadership impact and potential, plus career aspirations.
Lauren is sponsored by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation and will receive $5,000 per year to assist with costs associated with studying an agriculture related university degree, plus access to professional development opportunities including workshops and work placements to kick start an agricultural career.
RIRDC Managing Director, John Harvey, said “The successful applicants were selected from a talent pool of more than 150 applicants. These scholars are tipped as our brightest young leaders and are ones to watch when it comes to shaping the future of Australian agriculture. The unique scholarship program exposes students to career options from the start of their university journey, we aim to set students up for success and ensure they have the skills to navigate a dynamic career in agriculture”.
Lauren, who is a first year Bachelor of Rural Science student at the University of New England in Armidale, was thrilled to receive the scholarship and thanked RIRDC who will support her Horizon journey.
“It’s an honour to receive the scholarship, not only will it open doors and connect me with industry professionals, but I will gain valuable experience in the agricultural industry. I’m excited to meet other students involved in the program, learn more about the challenges and trends across the agricultural sector and how I can make a positive impact on the future of Australian agriculture,” said Lauren.
